One of my favorite movies of all times is Rocky.
The entire series is inspirational, but I really love the fourth movie in the series because it reminds me so much of the plight of a solopreneur. If you remember, that is the movie where Rocky fights the Russian who comes in with his fancy technology, his machines and trainers.
Rocky goes old school, using what he has at his disposal and his crew. Let’s be clear, both men put in some serious work….but Rocky has the heart and the fight in him.
This is why I love this movie and compare it to the plight of the solopreneur. Consider this:
- Rocky is in the ring in the end by himself against his opponent, but to get there, it took a team of people with different skills to prepare him for the day.
- He has to do some pretty intense training on his own prior to the match
- He does not have a lot of money, backing or fancy equipment
- He is not the fastest, the smartest or the most skilled
- He wins because he gets back up when they knock him down however many times it takes
When you decide that you are going to go into business for yourself, you may not have the financial investors, you may not have the support at home, you may not have the fancy degrees and certifications, but if you have heart and you are willing to keep getting back up, you will win against all odds.
How do I know? I just believe that there is NO WAY you will be given a vision to help people, to have your own business, to create a better life for yourself and your family and not be provided with the means to make it happen. No, it may not happen in the time frame that you want or in the form that you want, but if you keep at it, it will happen.
Here’s where people get tripped up. People get tripped up with they think that their life circumstances are the reason why they are not succeeding. They look at the success of others and say, well it’s because they had people investing in their business or they had a husband so they don’t have to work or they don’t have kids.
But I see people in those same situations succeeding every day. Why? Because They use those circumstances as fuel not as an excuse.
My question to you is, how can you take a circumstance and use it to your advantage? What excuses have you been using as the reason why you are not succeeding? Your assignment: find someone in that same situation and ask them how do they make it work and go out and get her done!
